Progress!!

It's hard for me to express how excited I am that I FINALLY got my Rode GO wireless microphone to work!! Sure it was just two days of frustration and LOTS of research and I was thinking that the microphone was broke. And just as I was thinking this was a hopeless cause, IT WORKED!!!

My computer is a Macbook Pro 2009. She works great except I was afraid that this technology was too new. After 3 different adapters that I purchased separately plus the one that came with the microphone, we seem to be in business. I did another test just moments ago on Zoom and everything checks out GREAT!! (Can you tell I am excited??????)

As I have stated in the past, I plan on teaching some free short classes to get used to the Zoom platform.

Thanks for your patience. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Zoom classes coming soon!

Just a quick announcement to let everyone
know that I will be offering
on-line classes
after Thanksgiving.

Since this will be a new
adventure for me, in more ways than one,
I will be teaching a few 30 - 45 minute
free classes so I can familiarize
myself with the platform.

Please email me at:

if you are interested.
Thank you!

Can you tell I am excited about this workshop???

Hi Everyone!!

I hope you are able to enjoy the cooler temperatures this weekend! We all needed a break from the relentless heat.

As you can see, I will be teaching a shoulder health workshop this fall. For those that attended my "Healthy Feet for a Healthier You" workshop over a year ago, this workshop will have a similar approach.

Essentially, there will be a power-point presentation, exercises with and without the Yoga Therapy Balls, and LOTS of information on healthy movements for your shoulders. I will go over basic alignment cues so that we have a neutral starting point. Everyone will work within their natural range-of-motion, so this class is great for almost everyone.

That said, if you have a chronic problem, frozen shoulder, or another issue that you are seeing a doctor about PLEASE talk to your doctor before attending this class.

I am NOT a physical therapist. I AM someone who is passionate about learning how to stay healthy and strong for the rest of my life. I would love to share with you what I have learned from many anatomists, physical therapists, bio-mechanists, and other researchers on overall body health.

I hope you will join me on this quest for a healthier life through healthy movements.

See you soon!!

Ayurveda, Yoga's sister science

Happy Mother's Day
weekend, everybody!!!
I hope you are all able to enjoy the last few days,
which have been gloriously lovely.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I am putting together some information about the body constitutions,
also known as the "Doshas." I will be bringing in (hopefully next week) a Dosha Test for everyone to take plus a foods list which will suggest foods that are good for your Dosha.

Yay!!! I love this nerdy stuff. You will learn a lot in a short time and I hope it is fun and informative for you.

See you on the mat.

Yoga Props Suggestions

From time to time I receive questions on where I buy my Yoga props. I have even had business owners that I rented Yoga teaching space from want to purchase my props when I moved. And no, I did not sell those props.

I put together a little link box just to the left of this message at the top of the smaller left column for easy access.
  • My cotton blankets are from Yoga Props
  • My thicker bolsters are from Hugger Mugger, as well as their 4-inch thick blocks and cotton straps (with metal D rings which make them weight baring).
  • The squishy rectangular bolsters are from It's Simply Zen (though they seem to be out at the moment). The company that makes the bolsters is Manduka. I also have Manduka wool blankets that I love in the wintertime!
  • The Yoga Center of Lawrence, where I first started teaching Yoga way back in 1999, has nice props from a small Yoga business in Dallas called Yoga Mart. I have only purchased books from Yoga Mart, but I thought I would put Marge's store in the mix since I know she sells quality products.
I hope that helps!!

Please notice recent changes in the schedule

There is a section in the column just to the left of this post, titled "Yoga Class Information," that has an updated class listing. There will be some new classes I will be teaching this spring and summer, so please check back often for updates.

  • Monday classes at the Elders' Center have been cancelled due to low enrollment.
  • Tuesday night classes are no longer at the Rock building. For the next 3 Tuesdays, Yoga classes will be held in the basement of the Government Center. Starting March 8th, Yoga classes will be at the Health Center. Same time, same day of the week, just different location.

Please email me if you have any questions:

New Workshops Coming Up in the New Year!

I am excited to announce
a new Foundations Workshop
that will be focusing on your feet.

The first class will be taught at the
Rossville Community Library.

After that, I will be pursuing other locations to teach this important and informative class.

This is a class about foot health with the most up-to-date bio-mechanical info on what your feet need in terms that anyone can learn and then incorporate into daily life. You will learn easy exercises, foot anatomy, and suggestions on what footwear will benefit your feet the most.

Check back in January for more details!

Just a quick update.

I am very excited about the progress of my Yoga studio/fiber studio. This photo is an older one but it shows how lovely (and empty) it is. I have the entry, the north wall and 2 coats on the south wall. Tomorrow I should have the south wall completed. Then the ceiling and the loft next. It seems slow going but I want to do this project to the best of my abilities, so I don't have to do it again!

I am still teaching (and loving every minute of it) my Sunday Yoga classes at the Rossville library. Though the classes are usually small, I do have some devoted students. I also hope to teach another knitting class in the new year.

I have also finished my Reiki II training several months ago. I have enjoyed working with my friend and teacher, Marta Schwartz, and would highly recommend her if you are interested in receiving training in Reiki.

Recently, I have enrolled for a correspondence course with one of my favorite herbalists, Rosemary Gladstar. I have her very thick binder full of all the coursework right next to me and look forward to gaining more herbal knowledge from her teachings. After working at a health food store for 7 years, being a vegetarian for 10 years (although no longer) and studying Ayurvedic medicine for 11 years, I feel thankful that this showed up at exactly the right time. Ask and you shall receive.

Next year, I will have been teaching Yoga for 15 years. I will see if Yoga Alliance will accept my application for the "experienced" Yoga teacher designation. If accepted, then my classes can be used towards contact hours for either teachers in training or on-going teachers. I can also (in the eyes of Yoga Alliance) teach teachers and they will be recognized and registered with Yoga Alliance. Whatever the outcome with YA, I have always enjoyed and will continue to help students take care of themselves. Empowerment through knowledge, learning together all the while. We will see where this path takes me in the future.

Blessings and good health to you and your families during this upcoming holiday season and into the New Year!

Be well. Namaste`

~ Cat

P.S. To those that have taken classes with me (in Lawrence or elsewhere) I will be opening up the studio for private or semi-private classes. As you can see in the photo, there is a wonderful Yoga rope wall, so the options are endless. I look forward to seeing your lovely faces soon. xxoo

Please don't let this dissuade you

I will have to say that I am very excited about tomorrow's Yoga class at the Rossville Community Library. It sounds as if there will quite a few people that will be attending the class.

If you are coming in from out-of-town, the library will be open by 1:35 pm. We will be filling the rooms as people come in the door, so being early ensures that a spot is available for you.

To be sure, since the first class is free we expect a big turn out. After the free class, students will have the opportunity to sign up for 4 classes (the first session) to reserve a spot. There is also the option to drop-in, if there is space available that class. All classes are $5.00.

If you have a Yoga sticky mat (not the foam mats that people use for Pilates) please bring it. I think I have 15 sticky mats but we may need more. We will see! I am looking forward to a fun class. See you on the mat.
