March birthdays!!

In my family March is a BIG
birthday month.

Since my husband's birthday
this year falls on
Thursday, March 12th,
I won't be teaching classes
that day.
 _____________________________________

No classes on
Thursday, March 12th.
____________________________

For those that paid for a full month of
classes in February, you will subtract
one class from your March total
due to a cancellation that I made this month.

March has 4 Thursdays.
No class on March 12th equals
3 classes in March.

Those that paid for classes in
February and want to pay for the
month of March = $20

Everyone else,
 3 classes x $10 = $30
Drop-ins = $15

NEWEST UPDATE for the Silver Lake Library Workshop

NEWEST Update:
 We have made the minimum!!
Exciting news, for sure.
If you are considering this class,
please try to sign-up soon
so that I have a good idea
on how many props to bring.
Drop-ins are welcome,
but do notice the fee is just
a little higher the day of the class.

We are going to have a lot of fun and learn
many helpful stretches and
strengtheners in class. Why not bring a friend and have twice the fun?

I hope to see you soon!!

No class tomorrow

No class will be held
at the library
on Thursday, January 2nd.

_____________________________

If you are planning on attending
class on Thursday, January 9th,
then you will either pay for
4 weeks
@ $10.00 per class
which equals $40.00
or
$15.00 drop-in fee.

 ___________________________________

If I happen to cancel a class,
we would make up that lost class
the next month and deduct it
from what is owed at the
beginning of the
following month.

____________________________________

Starting in January 2020, all
new students will be given a
hand-out of the foundational work
we do every week. If you have back,
knee, or hip pain, this foundational
work is exactly what you need
to move in the direction of
stability and strength.

Be prepared to be challenged in
a good way. If you cannot do the
harder poses in class due to
tightness or a previous injury, there
is always a way to modify the pose.

My job is to teach you how to move
in your body in a healthy and safe
manner. Questions are always welcome.

Thanks for stopping by!!

Welcome!

If you are new to this blog, I mostly post information here on my weekly classes, workshops, class cancellations, and sometimes links to my latest essays on my OTHER blog (see link below).

As you may have noticed (or even attended the class), I have been teaching a workshop that focuses on shoulder health. Since this is such a broad AND important topic, I hope that you will consider attending one of my weekly classes.

For the next several months, we will be spending more time getting to know the shoulders with lots of stretches and strengthening exercises. Since I have tight shoulders and you probably do, too, I hope to see you soon in class.

For those that didn't attend the shoulder health classes and would like to purchase some of the Yoga Therapy Balls, please email me. (FYI: The ones that everyone received at the PBPN class yesterday are a slightly larger size than the ones I have for sale.) Please email me at least a day before class just to ensure that I see the email.

I hope to see you on the mat!

Can you tell I am excited about this workshop???

Hi Everyone!!

I hope you are able to enjoy the cooler temperatures this weekend! We all needed a break from the relentless heat.

As you can see, I will be teaching a shoulder health workshop this fall. For those that attended my "Healthy Feet for a Healthier You" workshop over a year ago, this workshop will have a similar approach.

Essentially, there will be a power-point presentation, exercises with and without the Yoga Therapy Balls, and LOTS of information on healthy movements for your shoulders. I will go over basic alignment cues so that we have a neutral starting point. Everyone will work within their natural range-of-motion, so this class is great for almost everyone.

That said, if you have a chronic problem, frozen shoulder, or another issue that you are seeing a doctor about PLEASE talk to your doctor before attending this class.

I am NOT a physical therapist. I AM someone who is passionate about learning how to stay healthy and strong for the rest of my life. I would love to share with you what I have learned from many anatomists, physical therapists, bio-mechanists, and other researchers on overall body health.

I hope you will join me on this quest for a healthier life through healthy movements.

See you soon!!

FaceBook Break

She may be hard to see
in this dark photo
but this is our newest addition to the farm.
Cats really do understand
the power of the nap!

If you are connected to my
"Yoga with Cat McMahon"
facebook page,
you may have noticed that I am
no longer on that social media platform.
I am taking the summer off from that
media, and I have been
consciously watching where I spend my
time with regards to the internets.

I am going to at least take the summer off
and then reassess my relationship to
social medias. There is so much to do in
this short life that we are blessed to have,
and I want to make the most of it.

All my classes are continuing
throughout the summmer....
so I hope to see you on the mat!!

Love,
~ Cat

Ayurveda, Yoga's sister science

Happy Mother's Day
weekend, everybody!!!
I hope you are all able to enjoy the last few days,
which have been gloriously lovely.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I am putting together some information about the body constitutions,
also known as the "Doshas." I will be bringing in (hopefully next week) a Dosha Test for everyone to take plus a foods list which will suggest foods that are good for your Dosha.

Yay!!! I love this nerdy stuff. You will learn a lot in a short time and I hope it is fun and informative for you.

See you on the mat.

~ Cat

Yoga Props Suggestions

From time to time I receive questions on where I buy my Yoga props. I have even had business owners that I rented Yoga teaching space from want to purchase my props when I moved. And no, I did not sell those props.

I put together a little link box just to the left of this message at the top of the smaller left column for easy access.
  • My cotton blankets are from Yoga Props
  • My thicker bolsters are from Hugger Mugger, as well as their 4-inch thick blocks and cotton straps (with metal D rings which make them weight baring).
  • The squishy rectangular bolsters are from It's Simply Zen (though they seem to be out at the moment). The company that makes the bolsters is Manduka. I also have Manduka wool blankets that I love in the wintertime!
  • The Yoga Center of Lawrence, where I first started teaching Yoga way back in 1999, has nice props from a small Yoga business in Dallas called Yoga Mart. I have only purchased books from Yoga Mart, but I thought I would put Marge's store in the mix since I know she sells quality products.
I hope that helps!!

If the weather looks scary, stay home.

Since severe weather
seems to be the norm these days,
please understand that I will not be driving
in extreme weather to teach my Yoga classes.

In the event of 60 mph winds, rain with hail, and other biggies like tornadoes ~ please go home or to a safe shelter until the storm has passed.

If you try to call or text me and I don't respond don't worry, my phone gets terrible service especially during storms.

Of course, I will try to post cancellations here if I can. Again, if there is a storm already in the vicinity, I may not be able to post anything. I may be putting my animals in a safe place and closing windows, etc.

Please take care of yourselves and I will see you soon.

Namaste`
