YOGA: Coming to a convention near you!!!

Hello,

I had a wonderful adventure yesterday. I was fortunate to teach some librarians Yoga at a convention they were having in Lawrence. It was a fun challenge to come up with something worthwhile for them, since we only had a chair for a prop (remember I am a Iyengar teacher which means we use lots of props). They were in "street clothes" with no sticky mats on carpeting. I was possibly never going to see them again so I wanted to give them easy, practical postures that they could do throughout the day that might relieve their bodies from the everyday stresses of life.

At least from my perspective, I feel that it was a success. We only had an hour, which isn't long, but we covered a lot of territory on how to open the chest, stand in a way that uses the structure (bones) in a healthy way and a few other tried and true stretches that keep the spine happy. All relatively easy stuff, especially if performed every day.

Good fun, to be sure.

And I already have someone who wants me to teach in Topeka in the next couple of months at another convention. Who knew? Sounds like another wonderful challenge for me as I share the wealth of information that my teachers have given me over the years about a subject I am very passionate about: Yoga!

Much love to you one and all as you go about your busy days. I do hope that you will give yourself enough time to just sit, be present, and revel in all that you have helped create. You most certainly are needed. Spread the love and it will come back in the most amazing ways.

Be prepared for change

I am currently working with the director at the
Rossville Community Library to provide a weekly Yoga class.
Please check back as details will be provided
once we find out what the community needs.

This is exciting news for me because it would not only mean that would be teaching closer to my home but also that I would get to know my community.
As you may know already, I value a community connection very much.

What does this mean for my current Topeka classes?
Well, I would probably be eliminating one of the two classes I am currently teaching. Since I only have one long term student attending classes, I may stop teaching at the Learning for Life Center when my lease is up in May.

I currently pay rent, drive into town Thursdays and Saturdays. My one regular student usually attends one class per week. As much as I care about this one student, I cannot foresee renewing my contract with LFLC when it expires, with the amount of students I currently have (which is one). I know that teaching Yoga is not a money maker but this is tipped so much in the opposite direction that a change needs to happen and soon.

So if you have wanted to take a class from me at the LFLC, now is the time. If I somehow start to get more regular students, then the equation has changed and I will re-evaluate. Right now, I see no other alternative to the path that I am taking right now.

In other news: I may teach at the Hope Center or the Women's Jail. I have not inquired about it yet. I want to see what is happening with the Rossville library first, then figure out the volunteering aspect of my teaching afterwards. So I won't stop teaching, it is just that who and where I teach may change dramatically.

Moving forward....

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for your patience during this long transition.

I just recently was in a car accident this last Tuesday afternoon.  I am fine.  The car is totaled.  I am still processing what happened, since I have never been in an accident like this before.  Thank you all for your kind words and prayers.  I truly feel very loved!

I am currently negotiating a contract to teach Yoga in Topeka. More to be announced shortly.

Thank you and I look forward to seeing you all very soon!

Love,

Cat

Free Topeka Yoga Classes!

If everything goes according to my plans,
then I will start teaching Yoga again on May 7th.
Since I don't live in Topeka, please check this blog before class for cancellations.
The cancellation will be posted at least an hour before class starts.
Thank you!

2 Free Yoga Classes

Monday, May 7th at 6 pm
and
Thursday, May 10th at 1 pm

Come early!
The outside door is locked promptly before class begins.

**The free classes are general, all level classes.  If you have never taken a Yoga class before, please email me.  I will recommend that you come early so I can show you some Yoga basics.

If you are on medications or are seeing a doctor or physical therapist for any ailment or concern, please talk to them before taking a class.  I am happy to speak to any doctor or therapist about my classes but you should get their okay to attend a Yoga class first.

Regular classes start the week after.

Topeka Yoga Class Update!

Thank you all for your patience
in this time of change.

It looks like Yoga classes won't start
until at least April 15th.

Gentle reminder:  Yoga classes that I teach supplement your practice at home.  Don't berate yourself, just start a home practice today.  It doesn't have to be 2 hours of asana for it to be your home practice.  Choose a pose that you like, maybe Utthita Trikonasana (extended triangle).  See what happens.  What is the residue that the pose leaves in your body?  Allow that residue to help you move onto the next pose.  Be open to your intuition and let it guide your practice.

See you soon, I promise.

Great last minute gift for Valentine's Day

Although I am going to keep the 6 week sessions,
I am also going to introduce a
Yoga class punchcard.

So now you have several choices.

6 week session, one class per week = $90.00 ($15.00 per class)
10 class punchcard = $150.00 to be used within 6 months
or
drop-in = $20.00

As always, if you pay for a session and miss a class,
you can make-up that missed class within the session.
