Times....they are a changin'

After teaching in Topeka for 3 years, it is time to turn my attention a little closer to home. I am not closing the door entirely but I have some wonderful opportunities presenting themselves as of late.

I am announcing that I will not renew my lease with the Learning for Life Center in Topeka. May 31st is when my contract ends, so my last class at that location will be Thursday, May 30th.

Teaching in Topeka has been a bumpy, exciting and enlightening road. I have learned a lot along the way. I have had many surprises....some good, some bad but in the end I am a better teacher as well as student. Never a dull moment, to be sure.

I leave Topeka feeling that the town has the Yoga teachers it needs, so that is a good thing.

I will be teaching my Thursday Gentle Yoga classes at the Learning for Life Center until May 30th, 2013.

Sunday Yoga classes at the Rossville Community Library are filling up fast. I have been teaching there for 3 weeks, and we have a great group of students! I am truly blessed.

Please email me if you have any questions.

Also, I would be willing to teach another class in Delia, Rossville or Silver Lake. There is a demand for a second class but we would need to either work around the library's hours (have class when they aren't open) or find a second location. Suggestions are welcome!

Lastly, I am not exactly sure when the construction will be completed but I will have a Yoga room here at the farm. There will be a Yoga rope wall to hang from plus all the props necessary to have some amazing workshops this Fall. Lots of great training opportunities, as well, for current and soon-to-be Yoga teachers!

As always, teaching is such a blessing. I have been fortunate to share something that I feel so passionate about with so many lovely people. Yoga (and my children) has made me a better person. What a gift!

If you haven't taken a Yoga class, I hope you will.....soon.

See you on the mat!

Please don't let this dissuade you

I will have to say that I am very excited about tomorrow's Yoga class at the Rossville Community Library. It sounds as if there will quite a few people that will be attending the class.

If you are coming in from out-of-town, the library will be open by 1:35 pm. We will be filling the rooms as people come in the door, so being early ensures that a spot is available for you.

To be sure, since the first class is free we expect a big turn out. After the free class, students will have the opportunity to sign up for 4 classes (the first session) to reserve a spot. There is also the option to drop-in, if there is space available that class. All classes are $5.00.

If you have a Yoga sticky mat (not the foam mats that people use for Pilates) please bring it. I think I have 15 sticky mats but we may need more. We will see! I am looking forward to a fun class. See you on the mat.

Saturday classes canceled

It seems the combination of extremely inexpensive
Yoga classes in Topeka
coupled with (seemingly) saturated Yoga market
equals very few students in my Yoga classes.
Such is life.

So until further notice, no more Saturday classes.

Happy news!!!
There will be a Sunday class in Rossville at the Community Library. We are thinking after 2pm. The details are being worked out and I will announce as soon as I know more.

Namaste!

Mark your calendars

Please note that this does not happen
for two weeks from this posting.
Thank you.

I will be in Kansas City attending a Yoga workshop
in two weeks.
Doug Keller will be teaching at the
Yoga School of Therapeutics.
For anyone who is interested
the classes are from
Thursday, February, 21st thru Saturday, February, 23rd.
So I won't be teaching either of my classes that week.
No class on Thursday or Saturday.
See underlined for dates of canceled classes.
Thank you!!!!

Be prepared for change

I am currently working with the director at the
Rossville Community Library to provide a weekly Yoga class.
Please check back as details will be provided
once we find out what the community needs.

This is exciting news for me because it would not only mean that would be teaching closer to my home but also that I would get to know my community.
As you may know already, I value a community connection very much.

What does this mean for my current Topeka classes?
Well, I would probably be eliminating one of the two classes I am currently teaching. Since I only have one long term student attending classes, I may stop teaching at the Learning for Life Center when my lease is up in May.

I currently pay rent, drive into town Thursdays and Saturdays. My one regular student usually attends one class per week. As much as I care about this one student, I cannot foresee renewing my contract with LFLC when it expires, with the amount of students I currently have (which is one). I know that teaching Yoga is not a money maker but this is tipped so much in the opposite direction that a change needs to happen and soon.

So if you have wanted to take a class from me at the LFLC, now is the time. If I somehow start to get more regular students, then the equation has changed and I will re-evaluate. Right now, I see no other alternative to the path that I am taking right now.

In other news: I may teach at the Hope Center or the Women's Jail. I have not inquired about it yet. I want to see what is happening with the Rossville library first, then figure out the volunteering aspect of my teaching afterwards. So I won't stop teaching, it is just that who and where I teach may change dramatically.
